Perry was born on July 25, 1968 in Chicago In Illinois, she was the child of Laurie Metcalf Perry and Jeff Perry. The character Jackie Harris was played by her mother in both the two shows she starred in on Roseanne. The parents of her didn't want her to perform until she turned an adult fearing the effect of stress. Perry states that she did not want to be an actor in high school but decided to take up playing as a way to make friends while at Northwestern University when she switched to the university from Boston University. Perry started her acting career with New York after graduation, getting small roles on Law & Order: Criminal Intent. But homesickness made Perry go back to California and pursue a career as a stage actress. Perry was a part of Broadway with her mother in The Other Place with her mother in the year 2013. In 2015, she performed with her father as well as Kevin McKidd in Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize-winning play Anna Christie at the Odyssey Theatre Ensemble in West Los Angeles. Perry starred in the drama's nine episodes from 2016 on the ABC drama The Family. Perry played a prominent role in the ABC drama about politics Scandal, starring her dad. She also played her younger Mary Cooper in Young Sheldon - a CBS spin-off from The Big Bang Theory. She got the part in an audition that was open despite being connected to this role.
